People put lots of stock in the automobile black book, but there is more to vehicles than black book value. I should know. I am an used car sales representative, which means that I make my living honestly appraising and selling automobiles for their value. It is imperative to know the automotive blue book rate for used cars, but that is not all there is to it. Based on how well you take care of your vehicle, what modifications and repairs you make, and even what weather you live in, the automobile blue book value can be far off. The vehicle can be worth half of what it should be, or worth twice the book price for used cars. It all really depends.
Auto blue book for used cars is a great estimate, but it is only that. People look at the automobile blue book like it is the Holy Bible. If they can locate a car that’s 300 bucks under the auto black book value, they think they’ve gotten a deal. If they find a car that is just a couple hundred dollars over it, they won’t even think about it.
What they do not realize is that the more costly vehicle might be more pricey for a reason. No matter what the automobile blue book says, if you change your oil regularly, drive your vehicle slowly and carefully, and live in a local climate without harsh winters, it may well be worth more than the listed used vehicle value. Similarly, a fairly brand-new car can be so worn out that the auto blue book value is a joke. It is going to be worth hardly a small percentage of what the book says it’s worth. Even if it looks good on the outside, it is going to be worn out on the inside.
Truthfully, the automobile blue book value is a great place to begin looking, but it isn’t the full story. Only a competent and qualified mechanic can tell you the real facts about the vehicle that you are looking at. Automobile black book, after all, tells you how likely a specific make is to keep its value and keep on running, but it doesn’t tell you a thing about any particular car. Only a detailed inspection, both inside and out, can determine that. I do not mean that you should look at it with care. I mean that you should have a technician check out the engine, the wheels, the shocks, the brake pads, and all the other important parts.
